Abaxial Reticulation
Photograph of a Victoria water lily (Victoria amazonica) highlighting the various levels of venation and the unexpected purple coat of the seldom seen underside of the leaf. The leaves of this fantastical plant can grow up to 10 feet in diameter and float on the surface with a submerged stalk that can extend up to 26 feet in length. This photo was taken along a dried up backwater of the Amazon River in Peru.
